2007 Abington Township Pre-Night Out Block Party

Second Alarmers provided tours of our newest unit, SARS 13, along with the Utility Van and Bike Unit, to residents and visitors to Abington Township at the 2007 Abington Pre-Night Out Block Party.  SARS was joined by all the Abington Fire companies, the Abington and Cheltenham Police Departments, The DA's Office Forensic Unit, the Sheriff's Bomb Squad, the Montgomery County SPCA, the county Health Department, PennDOT and various other community service agencies at a very successful and busy night.

Joe Gallagher, Chris Engle, Andy Focht, Craig Hall, Jeff Kehr, Melissa Garvin and Michael "Boz" Garvin represented Second Alarmers at this event and brought a 4-legged friend along, Nancy Drew the Bloodhound, from the SARS Emergency Bloodhound Team.

Joe Gallagher, Melissa Garvin, Boz and "Nancy Drew", one of our search dogs.

Joe Gallagher explains some our our equipment to children, perhaps a future member.

Chris Engle gets "swamped" with a huge crowd of visitors.

Joe gets a ton of questions from these children, and satifies their curiosity!

The Bomb Squad and FieldCom 2 (ICS Command Truck) were nearby the SARS Display.

Late into the evening, Chris kept up with the pace of the kids.

Nancy Drew and Melissa greeted the children as they came to see the Second Alarmers display.

Nancy hams it up when the kids arrive.

All 5 Abington Fire Companies participated in the event.

Abington Police and the Tactical Unit also displayed some of their specialized equipment.

Nancy Drew has a reunion with Chris, the SPCA Police Officer, who is stationed at the Shelter where Nancy lived before the Garvins adopted her.

Pre-Night Out…it's the community event of the summer, and everyone is invited! Plan to attend this crime prevention block party on Monday, August 6 (rain date Tuesday, August 7), 6:00-10:00 p.m., at the Abington Town Center parking lot (by Target) at Old York and London Roads. This fun-filled and informative evening lets community members learn about the many resources and organizations available to them while enjoying food and entertainment. This event is a rally for National Night Out the following evening, August 7 when people in cities and towns across America are encouraged to keep their porch light on and sit or remain outside to show their support. "Give Neighborhood Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party" remains the national theme for this program marking its 24th year.       www.newsgleaner.com
