Atalanta "Attie" Garvin,
Rescue Bloodhound K1
SARS Search and Rescue Team
"Attie" is trained in Mantrailing and has been serving the community providing search services since 1999.   She came to us from Chico, Texas from a breeder with a huge litter and a dog with an unusual problem, a heat-related scratching situation.   The Vet suggested that a colder climate would be very helpful to her medical condition, and she came to Pennsylvania where she became the first "Emergency Bloodhound" on the team.  Attie has spent a lifetime locating missing children, Alzheimer's patient and persons fleeing from the Police in many different counties and townships. She was the first Bloodhound (and a Lady Bloodhound no less) to participate in "K9 Inservice", a monthly Police K-9 Multi-agency training session involving 12 different township and borough Police Departments.  Now "Functionally Retired" simply due to her age, she is called into service only in situations of serious emergency when the younger dogs are ill or otherwise unable to respond.  Attie's service is well-known in the area and she currently "gets the couch" at home as much as she wants, as she has earned it. Attie still enjoys light-duty training and practice runs and the occasional community display.    Attie frequently comes out to training and demonstrates to the younger dogs that she is still the elder and remembers how to do the job.
