Second Alarmers Rescue Squad Dedicate 9/11 Monument to Mark 10th Anniversary – Featuring a Piece of World Trade Center

BLUE BELL, Pa. – Second Alarmers Rescue Squad (SARS) will mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11 by dedicating a monument featuring relic from the World Trade Center at 1pm on September 11, 2011.  A retrieval team from SARS traveled to New York on July 27, 2011 to pick up a 12.5 foot, 3,105 pound artifact from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.  Since that day, SARS, Whitpain Township and over a dozen different community groups and businesses have joined forces to build the monument to honor the actions of so many Americans during that horrific day and the events following as a result.

When: Sunday September 11, 2011 at 1pm.  This event is rain-or-shine.

Where: Future site of the Second Alarmers Whitpain Emergency Medical Services Facility at the Whitpain   Township Building Complex, 960 Wentz Road, Blue Bell PA 19422.

What:  Sergeant at Arms, Bill Gray of Upper Moreland Fire Department will march Loch Rannoch Pipes and Drums representing the Emerald Society of Bucks and Montgomery Counties and emergency responders including the Second Alarmers, Centre Square Fire Company and Whitpain Township Police into the memorial site for the dedication ceremony.

  • Special comments will be made by appointed and elected dignitaries.  America the Beautiful will be sung by Ashley Leone, Star Spangled Banner will be sung by Rabbi Selila Kalev, inspirational 9/11 tribute songs sung by Bill Monoghan and Taps played by Officer Brian Palmero.  Remembrance of Firefighter John Kullick who gave his life in Iraq after joining the military following the September 11 attacks.  Culminating in the monument dedication, a 21 gun salute by the Montgomery County Vietnam Veterans group, 10 rings of a ceremonial fire bell to mark the anniversary and a moment of silence.  Following the ceremony light refreshments will be served by the St. Helena Knights of Columbus
