Shaun Froshour, EMT-P / FF, Dog Handler

Lifesaving CitationMASTER CORPSMANSARS Search and Rescue Team
"Frosh" is a member of the Search Unit. Shaun is a doghanlder of a Labrador Retriever, "Max", who performs Airscent and Cadaver search techniques.  Frosh also has experience in Florida on a countywide Search and Rescue K9 unit and brought that experience with him to SARS, along with his dog.

We are sad to announce that "Brandy" Froshour passed away on 17 October 2008 after a tragic vehicle accident. She had been a great asset to our team and an inspirational dog to the other handlers. She attended details and won the hearts of children and adults alike. At the time of her service, she was our only water-qualified cadaver detector, and the senior land cadaver and air-scenting Rescue Dog.

Brandy's happy attitude, friendly greetings and skills will be deeply missed by the entire team. She has a "pair of shoes" that will be quite hard to fill. Our hearts and emotions go out to the Froshour's for their loss.

Brandy joined our team after the EBT/SARS merger with a talent not shared by any of the other dogs, called "Air-scenting", which means she tracked the scent of ANY human using the wind as an aid. Brandy, although not a trailing dog, could also scent-discriminate the scent in the air if she was given a scent article, like the Bloodhounds. Brandy's technique gave the team yet another tool to assist in the location of missing subjects EVEN when a scent article was not available.
